About Furcatas

Furcatas is a small fish room dedicated to a single species: the forktail blue-eye rainbowfish, Pseudomugil furcatus. The name comes from the fish's old scientific name, Popondetta furcata.

Behind Furcatas is one Pseudomugil enthusiast with a love of biology and some extra time. Blue-eye rainbowfish are small, lively, and endlessly interesting to watch, and the forktail is the standout of the group. Breeding them is a hobby that produces more fish than our tanks can hold, so we share them with other hobbyists.

How we raise our fish

Our fry and juveniles are raised on powdered fry food and live baby brine shrimp. Because they grow up eating live food, they settle in quickly and go after live and frozen foods in their new tanks. See the care guide for how to keep them.
